San Luis Obispo NA Meetings

Find Local Help & Support in San LUis Obispo

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a fellowship of men and women who have issues with drug addiction. NA is a society of former addicts who take part in meetings in order to help one another maintain abstinence from drugs and alcohol. Narcotics Anonymous is a free program that meets all over the world, without the presence of therapists or other healthcare professionals, and with no accountability required for members as far as attending meetings. Within the Narcotics Anonymous program, members help one another, and many are able to find lasting recovery as a result of the support and relationships built through NA.

How Does Narcotics Anonymous Work?

Narcotics Anonymous utilizes a 12-step approach when it comes to recovery. This approach is based on the idea that people who are also in recovery are the best people to help those addicted to drugs when it comes to attaining and maintaining abstinence from those substances. Members of NA are encouraged to work closely with a sponsor, who can guide them through the 12 steps of the program and provide them advice from an understanding perspective, though obtaining a sponsor is not a requirement of the program.

During an NA meeting, members will share their experience with addiction, providing one another with hope and support for their future in sobriety. Anonymity is one of the main requirements for those attending NA. Only first names are shared in the program, and members are forbidden from speaking about the goings-on at NA meetings or anything that was said outside of the meetings themselves.

Benefits of Narcotics Anonymous

There are numerous benefits to attending NA meetings. These benefits include:

  • Structured meetings: NA meetings last one hour and take place at the same time on a weekly basis, starting and ending on time.
  • No cost: Attending NA is free, while donations are accepted.
  • Finding a community: Members are able to find support and connect with people they relate to through the NA program.
  • Sponsorship: Sponsors are able to help members and guide them through the 12 steps of NA.
  • Meeting options: There are ample meetings available at different times and places throughout the world. This means that support is always available to those who need it.
